What an honor it was for me to get to dedicate the Taylor’s new addition to their family.  At Broadcast Church it is a very special ceremony for the family where the pastor gets to dedicate the raising of the child to the Lord.  It’s not only special for the parents, but also for the Church as well.  It is our job to help young families in raising them with Godly principles.  We are here to encourage parent’s and also help teach them during BC kids and other events like Family Life Group.

A lot of people have bought into the “lie” that they shouldn’t ever Force their kids to go to Church, bible studies, family life groups, ect.  A lot of parents think that they should let their child choose.  I think their is a huge problem with this approach.

1.  It’s unbiblical:  It is our job as parents to “train” our children.

A.“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

B.  Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
(Proverbs 22:15 ESV)

C.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
(Deuteronomy 6:7 ESV)

D.  Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.
(Leviticus 19:3 ESV)

E.  My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.
(Proverbs 6:20 ESV)

F.  Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
(Ephesians 6:1-4 ESV)

G.  Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.
(Proverbs 29:17 ESV)

*Young adults have a huge problem with “authority” today because i believe they have not been shown a Godly example of an Earthly father, so when someone tells them they “Can’t” do something, or “these are the rules” they get very upset and want to rebel, “cause they don’t want anyone telling them what to do.”

Sure we want our kids to “like” us.  But your child doesn’t need another “Friend”.  They need you to be their Parent.  We must raise them to “Fear” God at a young age and they need to see you “obey” and “follow” the commandments in the bible.  Jesus said, “if you love me, you will obey my commands.”  True LOVE will never be complete unless their are ACTS of obedience.  This starts with their “training” and “disciple” at home.

The BEST thing you can do for your child, is to teach them to LOVE the Lord God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength.  The only way they will be able to do that, is if they SEE us, the parents, LIVING this out.

So LIVE IT OUT for your children to see!  Let them see how much you LOVE God by our Holy obedience to the Holy Spirit and his calling and leading!
