Teach them to to Your Children

Teach them to to Your Children

As many of you know, I have been going through the Bible in 90 days. I have had many people ask me if I am just reading to get through it, but I don’t feel like that at all. I feel like I can read and just enjoy the stories and refresh my memory of the wonderful goodness that God showed his chosen people Israel and how that relates to us today! I am into Deuteronomy and I’m finding that God definitely wanted us to get a few things.

In Deuteronomy 5 Moses quotes the 10 commandments again after already writing them down in Exodus 20. Looking at these 10 commandments I 10-commandments1can’t help but look at them and see that no one can be righteous, but he tells the Israelites that if they keep them it will be credited to them as righteousness. Have you ever told a lie? Do you have any false idols? This can be anything that you put before God, (sports, music, tv, even our family and friends). Here’s the one that I see many Christians do on a regular basis and it drives me crazy. They use the Lord’s name in vain. That means if you say Jesus, God, or any other name for God in a way that isn’t referring to him as a person, then it is blaspheming the name of the Lord. It is so infiltrated in our culture today. I challenge you, watch TV today and watch some of the most famous shows and they will say God ****** Jesus Christ, Jesus, Oh Jesus and many other ways that goes against the 10 commandments. I find many Christians using it all the time. I hope more people will become convicted about this. I think it shows a lack of respect to our God, Our God that sent his son to die for us, so that we could live with him in eternity.

I know everybody falls short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23), I can’t help but think how we really do fall short. I mean I fall short enough subconsciously, let alone doing something I know to be wrong and blatantly doing it. I’m so thankful for Jesus in my life so that he can be my righteousness, but I want to be pleasing to the Lord and I think we should strive to be the very best that we can be and I think we will have a lifetime of cleaning up to do if we just start with the 10 commandments.

In Deuteronomy 6: 1-9 It tells us to teach them to our Children (meaning the commands that he gave to the Israelites). I’m going to be a Dad in the

upcoming days. I hope that I can teach my son to fear the Lord and teach him to Love the Lord with all his soul and with all his strength. I believe that weather I’m successful as a father hinges on me modeling this to my son! I hope that this blog encourages you and also challenges you. The first 3 of the 10 commandments deal with loving God and the last 7 deal with how we love people. Sounds like Jesus when he said that all the laws are fulfilled in these 2 commandments: Love the Lord God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. And the second it like it, Love your neighbor as yourself. Let’s model this to a world that desperately needs to see Jesus!

I have served as a children’s teacher for 20 years. I believe that we can huge impact on our children. God loves the little children and wants them to draw close to him!
