Pastor Jess felt an undeniable call to church plant in 2008 after attending a church planting conference with the Wesleyan Church. God then moved on the heart of his wife, Charity, confirming the same call. The couple attended a church planting assessment, where God again confirmed the call to plant, with a unanimous “yes” from the assessors. For the next several months, Pastor Jess spent his days and evenings attending church planting conferences, reading books, and consulting with successful church planters to prepare for the uncharted waters he was about to be in. The couple moved to Chesapeake in the summer of 2009 and began to cultivate relationships in the community over the next eight months. On February 7, 2010 Broadcast Church was launched, with 100 people in attendance.
What has taken place since 2008 when Pastor Jess received the call, can only be attributed to God’s abundant grace. “No man can receive anything, unless God gives it from heaven.” John 3:27. Hundreds of lost people have received the free gift of salvation and baptism. Making disciples continues to be the heartbeat of Broadcast. The gospel is being proclaimed and the Kingdom of God advances as people continue to “get it, learn it, and live it”.
